Our Story
Magnolia Moon Yorkies wasn’t something we originally set out to create. During COVID, with more time at home and our last kiddo having moved out on her own, we decided we were finally ready for a dog.
We loved camping, our home was small and a Yorkie seemed like the perfect fit. Their small size and minimal shedding were especially appealing since I had developed allergies. Then Mia came into our lives—and one Yorkie quickly turned into two.
We found DeJay next. We weren’t looking for an especially tiny Yorkie; he was simply the last little guy available and too cute to leave behind. He just happened to stay tiny, weighing around 4½ pounds as an adult.
Before long, people were constantly asking where we had gotten our Yorkies. We had traveled hours to find them and eventually people began asking, “Are you ever going to have puppies?”
That’s when we thought... why not?
Mia went on to have three beautiful litters—first four puppies, then seven and finally four. From her last litter, we kept Penelope. Today, Mia is retired from having puppies, Penelope is raising her very first litter and Mia has happily promoted herself to Grandma.
She takes that job very seriously. She helps clean the puppies, teaches them manners, watches over them and even occasionally tries to nurse them—which is very sweet, although biologically unsuccessful. DeJay, meanwhile, prefers to keep a respectable distance until they’re old enough to play. 😂
Along the way, caring for our Yorkies became part of the way we live. We even began making their fresh food ourselves, preparing a large batch each month, portioning it and freezing it so our dogs have food made especially for them.
Through every generation, one thing has remained important to us: preserving the Yorkshire Terrier we fell in love with in the first place. Our dogs have pedigrees and we intentionally breed Yorkies to Yorkies rather than mixing breeds because we want to preserve the qualities and temperament that make them so special.
They are affectionate, intelligent and spirited little hunters... and, yes, seriously codependent.
Somehow, what started with one little Yorkie during COVID grew into Mia, DeJay, Penelope, generations of puppies and Magnolia Moon Yorkies.
